Elon Musk told Cursor employees earlier this month that AI models will eventually become impossible for humans to control, The Information reported, citing five people with knowledge of the meeting.
The comments during Musk’s first address to Cursor’s more than 1,000 workforce after SpaceX completed its $60 billion acquisition of the coding startup, the report said.
Musk told told staff at Cursor’s San Francisco headquarters and other offices that they needed to help SpaceXAI build the technology before other companies did.
Musk added that SpaceXAI had fallen behind competitors and he was not accustomed to losing. Grok was not the leader in its market and needed to catch up, he said.
According to the people, Musk described Anthropic as a strong competitor and said SpaceX would continue to stockpile the most compute capacity of any company competing in AI.
In June, SpaceX signed a computing-power deal with Reflection AI worth up to $6.3 billion. CNBC reported that the startup was set to pay $150 million a month for access to Nvidia GB300 chips at Musk’s Colossus 2 data center.
SpaceX completed its $60 billion acquisition of Cursor earlier this month after the companies had worked together under a technology-sharing and compute agreement announced in April. That agreement gave SpaceX the option to acquire the startup.
