Nvidia is considering an investment in U.S.-based AI firm Perplexity's latest equity round, according to a report from The Information.
The report, citing sources familiar with the discussion, said Perplexity's round would be worth billions of dollars and put the firm's valuation at more than $30 billion — a 50% rise from its last financing in 2025.
Nvidia and Perplexity have reportedly strengthened their business relationship after the AI startup's annualized revenue grew to $750 million from around $250 million at the beginning of 2026. The revenue growth is attributed to Perplexity Computer, an AI agent service that automates computer tasks for professionals.
The deal comes as Nvidia reportedly seeks to build the world's most powerful open-weight AI model — a model that anyone can download, run, and modify on their own hardware or servers.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday that the chipmaker is planning to use a $6 billion deal with AI startup Poolside to build an open-weight model that would compete directly with Chinese players such as DeepSeek and Kimi K3.
According to the report, Nvidia will invest $1 billion in Poolside at a pre-money valuation of $12 billion and pay $6 billion to license Poolside’s technology and hire a chunk of its engineers.
The move reflects CEO Jensen Huang's efforts to prepare Nvidia across multiple AI fronts while preserving its dominant position, the WSJ wrote.
The Latent has reached out to Nvidia, Perplexity, and Poolside for further comment.
