Anthropic is reportedly in talks with AI cloud infrastructure firm Nscale for another computing deal worth around $45 billion.

If finalized, it would represent the second major deal between the Claude creator and the Nvidia-backed data center developer, potentially bringing the combined value of their agreements to nearly $90 billion, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the negotiations. Anthropic already has infrastructure agreements with Nscale worth up to $44.6 billion, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission last month.

The proposed deal would cover a second facility at Nscale's Monarch data center campus in West Virginia, delivering 460 MW of computing capacity using Nvidia's Vera Rubin AI chips, the people said. Anthropic also has the right of first refusal on a planned third facility at the site, they said.

An agreement could be finalized within days, though discussions are ongoing and no final decision has been made, the people said. The Latent reached out to Anthropic and Nscale for comment.

Nscale's IPO prospects

The potential deal could offer welcome relief to the UK-based firm, after Microsoft recently backed out of a deal to anchor Nscale's first British data center, just weeks ahead of a potential U.S. stock market listing, amid grid availability concerns. Microsoft represents more than 40% of Nscale's $103 billion in contracted revenue, though the UK deal is thought to be a small part of that, The Telegraph reported.

Nscale's proposed initial public offering had targeted a valuation of $30 billion, though some investors have urged the firm to reduce that to between $16 billion and $19 billion, per Bloomberg.

Nscale has not secured the financing required for its first Anthropic contract and would still need funding to supply chips under the proposed second agreement.

Anthropic, last valued at $965 billion following a $65 billion Series H funding round in May, is expected to conduct its own blockbuster IPO this year, potentially before Thanksgiving.
