OpenAI unveiled Astra for Law, the latest configuration of the GPT-6 Astra model specialized for lawyers and legal technology companies.
According to the company's Thursday announcement, Astra for Law is an optimization of the GPT-6 model for legal analysis and writing with instructions, deep work settings, and a new Legal Search Index.
The index gives users access to U.S. case law, statutes, regulations, court rules, and administrative decisions across more than 230 million URLs that will be continuously updated, OpenAI said.
Astra for Law is not a separate model but a configuration that is set to appear in ChatGPT and Codex as "GPT-6 Astra Law" and later in the API as gpt-6-astra-law. The company will allow select firms to access Astra for Law initially, while API access will be made available in the near future.
OpenAI said it built Astra for Law in collaboration with several law firms. It collaborated with Sullivan & Cromwell on an agreement analyzer, with Ropes & Gray on an M&A diligence program, and with Cooley for GO Public, which focuses on initial public offerings.
Alongside Astra for Law, OpenAI said it is launching 26 partner-built plugins and 47 community plugins that will allow users to customize tools to their needs.
