Cosmos Ventures, an AI-focused venture capital firm, has unveiled its first fund, with $77.6 million in capital to invest in AI startups.
In a Wednesday post on X, Cosmos Ventures founder Brendan McCord wrote that the fund will invest in AI "philosopher-builders" - people who he said would first decide what they should build for and turn those convictions into real products and institutions.
"AI is creating the biggest opening for institution building since the American founding," the VC said in a separate blog post. "Tomorrow's most important companies will set new norms that others organize around, becoming foundational institutions of the AI age."
Specifically, Fund I has invested in Artificial Intelligence Underwriting Company, which is building the assurance layer for AI agents.
It also backed Prime Intellect, which builds the open superintelligence stack, as well as Workshop Labs, whose models were "tailored to each user's knowledge, taste, and values," said McCord. The fund has also invested in a stealth education company.
The fund's limited partners include Reid Hoffman (LinkedIn co-founder), Joe Liemandt (principal at Alpha School), Stand Together, Fred Wilson (co-founder of Union Square Ventures), Micky Malka (founder of Ribbit Capital), and the Astera Institute.
Funding activity for AI startups has remained strong in recent months. Manufacturing AI startup CADDi announced this week that it has raised a $114 million Series D at a $1.2 billion valuation. AI coding startup Factory has also raised $200 million, more than tripling its valuation to $5 billion in five months.
