Elon Musk announced Monday that SpaceX will launch Nvidia's Vera Rubin NVL72 system into orbit in the fourth quarter of next year.

In his X announcement, SpaceX's billionaire founder and CEO said the company plans to expand the system's deployment to a "significant scale" in 2028.

Nvidia's own press release noted that the Vera Rubin NVL72, optimized for power, thermal management, and bandwidth in space, will be launched with SpaceX's first-generation Starmind satellite. SpaceXAI also plans to expand its AI infrastructure behind Grok using Vera Rubin.

Nvidia Vera is the company's first CPU built for AI agents, designed to speed up the heavy CPU work that happens around model inference - such as using tools, running code, processing data, coordinating tasks, and running simulations.

“Agentic AI requires a new kind of computing system - one built not only to generate answers, but to take action,” said Ian Buck, vice president of hyperscale and high-performance computing at NVIDIA.

“Vera gives AI agents the CPU performance to act in real time - executing code, processing data and coordinating complex tasks. SpaceXAI is taking this architecture from massive AI factories to the next frontier of computing in orbit.”
