First Lady Melania Trump is rebranding the administration’s artificial intelligence initiative as the "2027 Presidential Super Intelligence Challenge," a nationwide competition for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Trump said the previous AI initiative reached 20,000 students in schools in and outside the U.S.

"America’s future security, prosperity, and global leadership depend on our next generation. Building on last year’s success, the 2027 Presidential Super Intelligence Challenge will empower our children to lead the world," Trump said in a statement on Tuesday.

The first lady's announcement comes weeks after President Donald Trump signed an executive order renaming artificial intelligence to "super intelligence" because innovation "far exceeds" just AI, the White House said. Trump had been touting "super intelligence," calling it a more "important name" compared to AI.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has taken the approach that the U.S. needs to beat China in the race for AI innovation, despite growing concerns from lawmakers and the companies themselves over the need for stronger safeguards and a slower pace of development. The administration also recently launched a Super Intelligence task force, which its vice chair said would include a plan for a notification program and safety.

Melania Trump's initiative will include a "rigorous set of milestones focused on SI readiness," as well as a "project-based competition," the White House said on Tuesday.

"The future won't wait," Melania Trump said in a video on Tuesday. "Neither will America."
