Meta released the weights for Muse Spark Open, an 816-billion-parameter open-weight AI model designed for coding, software engineering and agentic tasks, which the company describes as the most capable U.S.-developed model of its kind.

"We believe the future is for everyone, and that includes the freedom to run advanced models wherever, including at home. Muse Spark Open is the first model in its class to run on your desktop," the firm said Thursday in a blog post.

Perhaps most notably, Meta worked with longtime rival Apple to optimize the model for local deployment across two Mac Studio computers using Apple's MLX framework, allowing developers to run it on their own hardware rather than relying on cloud infrastructure.

"Congrats to the team!" Apple CEO John Ternus said in a post on X. "Amazing to run a model of Muse Spark Open's caliber and scale this efficiently, right from your desk. Mac Studio keeps pushing the boundaries of on-device AI!"

The model is available through several artificial intelligence platforms, with its weights downloadable from Hugging Face and major cloud providers.

"We're sharing this work because we want everyone to have access to the best models," Meta continued.

The Mark Zuckerberg-led Meta released Muse last month, and the personal AI agent quickly shot to the top of Apple's App Store. At that time, many analysts called the Muse AI agent much more promising than expected.

Shortly after its debut, Meta expanded Muse to small businesses with connectors for QuickBooks, Canva, Shopify, Stripe and Slack. Just this week, Meta also rolled out Muse Wonder models for insurance claims, leases and software.
